Parent support for newly arrived families
Being a parent in a new country raises many questions. Here you can get support about parenting and Swedish society. You can meet the social services and ask about child-rearing and development, and what support is available.
Drop-in: Two staff members from the social services are at Boden Integration and Cooperation (BIS) every Thursday 10:00–12:00.
Course: Dealing with seperation
Children in Focus (BIFF) is a course to help you give your child the best possible support during a separation.
Why BIFF?
Often the most difficult part is not the separation itself but ongoing conflict. When children are drawn in, stress can be high. As a parent, you can make a difference.
Purpose
- Highlight the child’s needs and situation.
- Offer new perspectives.
- Build hope that things can improve.
- Strengthen your supportive parenting.
Format
- Three to four group sessions, about two hours each.
- Educational elements and group discussions.
- Knowledge about attachment, risk factors, and protective factors.
- Refreshments and participation are free of charge.
You can participate even if the other parent does not want to or cannot. If both parents wish to participate, you will be placed in separate groups.
Who runs it?
BIFF is part of Save the Children’s programme “A Safe Space”, which equips professionals to support parents and children in family law conflicts. The course is implemented in several municipalities in Sweden.
