Who is the support for?

The support is for people aged 18 or over who have experienced violence in a close relationship. If one or more of the descriptions below fits you, you can get help.

• You have felt afraid of and threatened by your partner.
• You must tell your partner about everything you do.
• You feel controlled and alone.
• You feel that your partner controls your life and decides what you are allowed to do.
• You adjust to your partner to avoid conflict.
• You have been forced into sexual acts.

“Conversations about freedom” – how it works

“Conversations about freedom” is individual counselling where you meet a therapist at the Violence Support Clinic. The process starts with an assessment phase. Then you work through four themes together. The series can take different amounts of time and is adapted to your needs. The sessions follow five steps that you complete at your own pace. The purpose is to build understanding of the violence you have experienced, its consequences, and how you can rebuild your life and your sense of self.

Themes in the sessions

• Orientation – knowledge about violence and its consequences.
• Stabilisation – managing emotions and daily routines.
• Create freedom – what you want and how you want your life to look.
• Summary – a plan to maintain freedom from violence.

Confidentiality and cost

The support is free of charge. We have a duty of confidentiality. We do not keep case records.
