Who is the support for?

The support is for anyone aged 18 or over who recognises themselves in one or more of the statements below.

  • I find it hard to manage my feelings, for example anger, and I do things I regret.
  • When I get angry I raise my voice, shout, or say hurtful things.
  • My partner, and any children, are sometimes afraid of me and feel uncomfortable.
  • I have been physically violent towards my partner or I am afraid that I might become violent.
  • I have felt jealous and controlled my partner by sending many text messages or calling often, or by commenting on their friends, appearance, or clothing choices.
  • I have threatened to harm myself or my partner.

Conversations about violence – how it works

The Violence Support Clinic offers individual treatment called Conversations about violence. You begin with an assessment. After that you work through seven themes together. The therapist also assesses risks and safety for your partner and children. The series is adapted to your needs and can take different amounts of time. The goal is for the violence to stop. You practise managing thoughts, identifying and tolerating feelings that can lead to violence, and improving communication and relationship skills.
