What integration means in Boden
Integration is when people and the community move closer so that everyone has equal rights, duties and opportunities. The goal is that you can live a free, dignified and independent life and take part in work and community life.
Why this matters now
Boden is growing fast with new jobs and more residents. To meet skills needs and the green transition, we must make full use of new competence, give a quick way into work and make everyday life function well for everyone who moves here.
Our focus areas
Boden’s integration work gathers four parts that affect your everyday life: work, education, housing, and active leisure with social participation.
Work – the base for your own income
Work gives you economy, self-determination, daily language use and new contacts. The municipality works with employers and public agencies so that more people get jobs or move closer to the labour market.
What the municipality does within work
- Coordinates support and measures with, for example, JobbCenter and the Public Employment Service
- Helps employers find and receive the right competence, including international recruitment
- Promotes fair working conditions and a good work environment
Education – language and studies open doors
Good Swedish and completed education raise your chances of work and participation. The municipality offers Swedish for immigrants, civic orientation and adult education, and support for children and pupils.
What the municipality does within education
- Organises Swedish for immigrants so that the path to work and studies is clear
- Offers study guidance in the first language for children and pupils who need it
- Cooperates to reach more families with parental support and supports routes to completed upper secondary education
Housing – a safe base in everyday life
Stable housing makes it easier to work, study and take part in community life. The municipality cooperates with property owners to support settlement and counter segregation.
What the municipality does within housing
- Works with housing companies to increase access to homes
- Develops mixed neighbourhoods with different types of housing
Active leisure and social participation – community builds trust
Meeting places, associations, culture and sport build health, networks and trust. The municipality and civil society work together so that more people take part.
What the municipality does within leisure and participation
- Supports associations and organisers that create open, inclusive activities
- Develops safe and meaningful places across the municipality
Priority areas 2024–2030
This is how Boden focuses to strengthen integration and create benefit for you as a resident:
- Increase employment among foreign-born residents aged twenty to sixty-four
- Move more newly arrived people into work or education after the introduction period
- Develop Swedish language education for a better path to work and studies
- Work together to reach more foreign-born families with parental support
- Increase the share of foreign-born residents with completed upper secondary education
- Strengthen cooperation with property owners for greater integration
- Raise residents’ trust in the municipality’s integration work
- Increase voter turnout to the municipal council among foreign-born residents
How the work is carried out and followed up
Integration work is done within regular management and budget. Results are followed up each year against set directions and are reported to elected officials. The strategy is checked in 2027 and revised if needed, and reviewed in full in 2030.
What you as a resident can do
- Use Swedish in daily life and join activities where you meet new people
- Seek work, work practice or studies and use the support on offer
- Join an association, visit meeting places and events
- Share your experiences: your ideas help us improve the work
