What JobbCenter does for newcomers
JobbCenter helps you to become part of society. Here you can get help to meet people, practise Swedish, and understand health care, school, and working life.
- Help with contacts with public authorities such as the Migration Agency
- Support with finding housing
- Advice about preschool, school, upper secondary school, and adult education
- Coordination of questions about economy, health care, public authorities, and school
- Projects and activities to build community and networks

JobbCenter arranges open meetings, group activities, and projects to create contacts and strengthen your path to studies or work.
The Introduction Programme – how it works
The Introduction Programme is provided by the Swedish Public Employment Service. You receive an individual plan and must at the same time look for work. The programme can last for up to two years.

- The programme lasts up to two years
- The goal is that you learn Swedish, find work, and become self-supporting
Examples of measures in the programme
Swedish studies, work placement, career guidance, validation of previous education, and planning for work or further studies.
Civic Orientation – rights and content
The municipality must by law offer civic orientation to newcomers. It should start as soon as possible after registration in the population register and can continue for up to three years.

- Starts after registration in the population register
- Applies for three years from first registration
- At least one hundred hours
- Content includes everyday life, housing, school, health, work, children and family, and rights and obligations in Sweden
Financial support at the beginning
When you have received a residence permit you can receive a gap allowance, in Swedish called glappersättning. It is financial support for living costs until you start receiving the establishment benefit through the Swedish Public Employment Service.
