What you need to know
As a legal guardian or trustee, you are responsible for following laws and regulations and always acting in the best interest of the person you represent. This means, among other things, that you must:
- Keep track of finances and submit an annual report.
- Know which actions require the consent of the Chief Guardian Committee.
- Be aware of the rules for bank accounts, pocket money, and gifts.
- Understand fees and compensation.
- End your assignment correctly when it comes to an end.
Important dates and rules
- The annual account and report must be submitted before 1 March each year.
- An inventory of assets and debts must be submitted within two months from the start of the assignment.
- A final account must be submitted within one month after the assignment ends.
- The consent of the Chief Guardian Committee is required for withdrawals from restricted accounts, buying or selling a home, taking loans, or other major financial decisions.
