Family support and activities
As a relative, you may sometimes need support, community, or just a moment of relaxation. Through the family support service, you have the opportunity to meet others in similar situations, take part in activities and discussion groups, or receive individual support.

Family support service
The municipality’s family support service is here for anyone who provides care, help, or support to someone close to them. This may include being:
- A relative of someone with a long-term physical illness, dementia, or who is elderly.
- A relative of someone with a mental health condition or a disability.
Through the family support service, you can receive both support and a sense of community. You can take part in personal talks, home visits, support groups, study circles, lectures, and different wellbeing activities. The aim is to reduce the physical, mental, and social strain that can come with a large care responsibility, and to improve your quality of life.
No registration or records are kept when you make contact, and all staff are bound by confidentiality.
Activities for relatives
We arrange different activities where you can meet other relatives, receive support, and share experiences. You are welcome to register.
Family café
If you support a relative with a long-term illness such as dementia, stroke, or Parkinson’s disease, or an older person at home or in special housing, you are welcome to our family café. Here you can meet others in a similar situation, talk about everyday life, and gain new perspectives. We have coffee and refreshments together and receive information about upcoming meetings.
Time: Tuesdays 30 September, 28 October, and 25 November, 13:00–15:00.
Place: Hedenbrovägen 8, in the same building as Garnis short-term care home.
Registration: Please inform the family consultant in advance, +46 921 782 36, as the meetings are sometimes held at another location.
Individual talks
Would you like to talk in peace and quiet about your situation as a relative? You can book an individual talk. The talks can take place at the family support service, by phone, or digitally. No records are kept, and staff are bound by confidentiality.

Discussion group “Sustainable relative”
This group is for those who want to strengthen themselves in their role as a relative. In the group we share experiences and receive support to cope with everyday life. The group starts when enough people have registered.

Study circle “When I am no longer here”
Prepare for the future as a parent of adult children with support under the Act concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments (LSS). The study circle consists of six sessions and starts when at least four participants have registered.
Register your interest: Family consultant, +46 921 782 36.
Visiting service
To reduce loneliness, we offer a visiting service in cooperation with the Red Cross, pensioners’ organisations, and the Church of Sweden.
Volunteers make home visits to people who would like company and a moment of community. It may be a conversation over a cup of coffee, a walk, or simply having someone to share time with.
Through the family support service you can also register your interest if you would like to become a visitor yourself, or if you know someone who would appreciate a visit.
