What is home care?

Home care means support, assistance and services in your home. The goal is for you to live at home for as long as possible, remain active and have a safe everyday life.

Home care may be granted due to physical or mental disability or for social reasons. The support is provided as assistance under the Social Services Act and is subject to a fee.

Examples of home care services

  • Practical help such as cleaning, laundry, shopping and meal deliveries.
  • Care and support such as personal hygiene, help with meals, mobility, safety and social support.

In the municipality of Boden, many staff members are trained assistant nurses. Staff are available during the day and evening, and a night patrol works at night. All staff are bound by confidentiality.

Applying for home care

How to apply

You apply for home care through the assistance unit (the municipality’s case officers for support and home help).

If you are under 65 and have a severe disability, you can apply for support under the Act concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments (LSS).

Case handling

An assistance officer will assess your needs using the IBIC (needs-based method). The assessment considers areas such as personal care, home life, mobility and social needs.

The processing time is normally three weeks after all documents have been received.

Decision

The decision is based on the Social Services Act, your individual needs and the municipality’s guidelines. The goal is for you to live independently and achieve a reasonable standard of living.

If your application is rejected or only partly approved, you always have the right to appeal. Together with the decision, you will receive information on how to appeal and the time limits that apply.

Planning and delivery

When a decision has been made, the task is handed over to home care services. You will be contacted by staff who, together with you, plan how the support should be provided. This plan is documented in an individual implementation plan.

You can choose between a municipal or a private provider.

If you are not satisfied with the way the services are planned, you can contact the unit manager or the social care coordinator. If your needs change, you can always contact your assistance officer.

Follow-up and changes

Home care services are reviewed regularly to check whether they are working, whether the goals have been achieved and whether anything needs to be changed.

You can at any time request a new assessment if your needs change.
