Apply for a care home

A care home, also called a special housing unit, is for people who have extensive care needs and can no longer live at home with the support of home care.

To apply, contact the municipality’s assistance unit (case officers for support and help at home).

Apply for a senior housing with extra support

Senior housing with extra support is for people aged 65 or older who need security, social community and easy access to services, but who do not yet need round-the-clock care.

In this type of housing you have, among other things:

  • Opportunities for shared meals and social activities,
  • An activities coordinator who arranges events and programmes,
  • Staff who provide advice and support during the night,
  • Your own kitchen or meals delivered to your apartment,
  • Home care and home healthcare in the same way as in an ordinary home.

Your needs are assessed individually according to the Social Services Act. If your needs increase, you can apply for a care home instead.

Our care homes

In Boden municipality, there are different care homes where you receive support, healthcare and a meaningful everyday life.

Serving alcohol

In the care homes of Boden municipality, alcohol may be served to residents and their visitors. Service is always connected to meals in the dining room, or on special occasions such as pub evenings and celebrations.

Rules for serving alcohol

  • Alcohol is only served to residents and their visitors.
  • Visitors may only be served on special occasions.
  • The service must not resemble a public restaurant business.
  • Only people aged 20 or older may be served alcohol. Identification may be required.
  • No alcohol is served to people who are visibly intoxicated.
  • Residents may drink their own alcohol, but only in their apartments.

Selection and payment

Examples of what can be ordered: small bottles of red or white wine, beer, snaps, liqueur, cognac, whisky and non-alcoholic wine.
Information about selection and prices is available at each care home. Payment is not made in cash but by invoice, and the drinks are specified on the resident’s care bill.

Apartment within three months

When you have been granted a place in a care home, you will be offered an apartment within three months. You will be notified by both letter and phone.

In care homes

  • Participation in everyday tasks and events according to your wishes and abilities.
  • Social interaction in the home’s common areas.

In dementia care homes

  • Staff who use proven methods to promote well-being.
  • Special competence in dementia care.

In short-term care homes

A time-limited stay of a few weeks in a single or double room. Short-term care may be granted for:

  • Relief for relatives, for example alternating care.
  • Waiting for another type of housing.
  • Assessment of future care needs.
