Emergency help and support

Suicide prevention

If someone threatens to take their life, call 112 immediately. An operator will send help. Support is also available if you or someone close to you has suicidal thoughts.

If you have suicidal thoughts

Do not keep the thoughts to yourself. Talk to someone you trust, call a helpline, or seek care. You are not alone and there is nothing to be ashamed of.

How to help a person with suicidal thoughts

Ask directly if the person is thinking about taking their life. Stay in the conversation and listen calmly. Talking about suicide does not increase the risk. Conversation can help the person seek support.

The municipality’s work for mental health

Background and purpose

Boden Municipality runs ongoing development to improve mental health. The work is part of a national initiative based on an agreement between the government and the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions. The aim is to stimulate development, strengthen conditions for local and regional analysis, set goals, and improve mental health.

Our five focus areas

  • Prevent ill-health. Early actions that reduce suffering and costs to society.
  • Right care and support at the right time. Access to evidence-based actions early in a course of ill-health.
  • Recovery-oriented approach. See the person with mental ill-health as an active co-creator in their recovery.
  • Equal and safe health and social care. Good accessibility and high quality for everyone.
  • Engagement and coordination. Close cooperation between municipality, region, and patient, user, and family movements.

Action plans and collaboration

The municipality participates nationally, regionally, and locally in creating and implementing county-wide action plans. The goal is better cooperation between all parties and higher quality within mental health work.
