International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

Welcome to our upper secondary education where all subjects are taught in English. Here, the journey to an education that will open doors to the world begins.

In this programme you study to prepare for university and develop a global mindset that helps you towards universities and careers in Sweden or abroad. All subjects (except languages) are taught in English. At Björknäsgymnasiet we pride ourselves in having licenced and experienced teachers that will guide you on your journey from day one to graduation.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

During the first year you will study upper secondary courses from the Swedish national curriculum that will be a step on the way to qualify for Swedish universities. Here you choose either Modern Languages (German, French or Spanish) or Digital Creative Course. 

Preparatory year (year 1)

• Swedish 1  (or Swedish as a second language)                    
• English 5 & 6                  
• Psychology 1                       
• Sciences 1b                    
• History 1b                       
• Sports & Health 1                              
• Mathematics 1c                           
• Civics/Social Studies 1b        
• Digital Creative Course OR Modern Languages (French/German/Spanish) 

Years 2 and 3

Students studying for the IBDP Diploma choose one subject from six different subject groups:

1. Studies in language and literature (Swedish or English)

2. Language acquisition (Swedish, English, French, German, Spanish or Swedish Ab initio)

3. Individuals and societies (Global Politics, History, Psychology or Environmental systems and societies)

4. Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Environmental systems and societies)

5. Mathematics (Analysis and approaches or Applications and interpretation)

6. Arts (Visual Arts)

 

In addition to this, students also take IB Core Subjects: Extended Essay, Creativity-Activity-Service (CAS) and Theory of Knowledge (TOK).
