Letter of intent on housing with Lindbäcks
Boden Municipality and Lindbäcks have signed a letter of intent concerning housing in the planned Tjärnbacken development. The initiative is driven by the municipality’s growing need to recruit skilled employees and the limited availability of vacant housing in Boden. The two parties will now jointly explore a solution that could involve around 20 apartments.
As Boden grows, so does the need for employees across municipal services. At the same time, the shortage of available housing can make it more difficult to recruit people who need to relocate to Boden.
Following an extended dialogue with Lindbäcks, the municipality is now taking the next step by signing a joint letter of intent.
– For the municipality, this is about creating the right conditions for our own operations and services. When we need to recruit more employees, people must also be able to move here and find somewhere to live. Following an extended dialogue with Lindbäcks, we have identified a possible way forward that we now want to explore further, says Béatrice Öman, Municipal Commissioner of Boden.
The letter of intent is based on approximately 20 apartments. The final structure of any agreement has yet to be determined. Possible solutions could include the municipality leasing a number of apartments or other forms of rental guarantees.
Lindbäcks has already invested in Boden
Lindbäcks is a regional company with previous investments in Boden. In 2023 and 2024, Lindbäcks Fastigheter completed a total of 92 rental apartments of its own at Björknäsgärd.
The company now intends to continue investing in Boden and is planning to build a further 89 rental apartments in the first phase of the Tjärnbacken development, distributed across four buildings. The full Tjärnbacken project comprises a total of 180 homes.
– It is very positive to see a regional company like Lindbäcks continuing to believe in Boden and invest here. They have already demonstrated their ability to take projects from planning to completed homes in Boden. We need more housing and more actors who take a long-term view of the development taking place here, says Béatrice Öman.
The letter of intent does not constitute a decision on a final agreement. Before the municipality can enter into any future commitment, the legal and financial conditions must be assessed and the necessary political decisions must be taken.
