What is student health?
Student health is for all pupils from preschool class through upper secondary school. It includes medical, psychological, psychosocial and special educational support. Work is primarily health-promoting and preventive.
Purpose and goals
Create good learning conditions and remove barriers early. Work happens close to teaching and in collaboration with school staff.
Central student health team
The Central Student Health Team supports children and pupils to reach the goals of the curriculum through promoting, preventive and remedial efforts for mental, physical and psychosocial health.
Cooperation and responsibilities
The central team coordinates support, coaches school-based health teams and, when needed, cooperates with the region, social services and other actors to give the right support at the right time.
Required professional roles
Pupils must have access to:
- School doctor
- School nurse
- Psychologist
- School counsellor
- Staff with special educational competence
How the team works
The professions work together. They monitor wellbeing and attendance, identify needs and agree on measures with the pupil, guardians and teachers.
Safety and wellbeing
Health and learning are connected. When pupils feel well, they have better conditions for success in school; success in school often strengthens wellbeing and a sense of safety.
